Common Issue? Paying associates when prepayments made in prior months
Hello everyone, This has probably been an issue before, and if so, can someone please point me to the appropriate thread(s) on the matter? We pay our ortho associate by running monthly collection reports. Patients frequently make prepayments in the prior month(s), then when the treatment is started ...

Open Dental hosted in cloud - middle tier or VPN
Hello everyone, hope everyone is well. Right now I am hosting Open Dental on Amazon. To tighten the ship, I limit incoming requests to the ports and protocols required for Middle Tier from my WAN IP address. I'm a dentist and not an IT guy, so my method of scripting DDNS-derived ip addresses into Am...

Calculating provider pay at two different rates
Hello world, how is everyone? So it looks like the office manager created two different providers for the same provider because he makes a different percentage of production based on the procedures performed. (Dentist is multi-speciality.) This is breaking our "Search for next appointment" feature (...

Re: Sheet - image field max height is 4000
Hi, Yes, when I first created the sheet I added pages sufficient enough to display the contents of the image overlay. Here is screenshot of the current situation: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_UAhwuv3tfW71UjzxigIAPy8g7ZKOb1B/view?usp=sharing Perhaps it is something easy for you to fix like incre...

Sheet - image field max height is 4000
Hello... Most of my sheets I have implemented as a overlay image for the convenience of being able to develop sheets in a different environment and just add interactive fields on top of the jpeg. My ortho contract is a very long jpeg and when I first created the sheet and added the image, it was no ...

Re: Changing and upgrading forms with background images
Hi Jordan, thanks... That turned out to be the problem. I had changed the background image and deleted the old one. Fortunately I have snapshots enabled on my NAS and was able to retrieve the original background image. I am in the process of fine tuning the forms with feedback with my staff, so I wi...

Changing and upgrading forms with background images
Hello everyone! I have been making all my forms and exporting them to images, then using the images in sheets and overlaying the input and output fields. Then I made some changes to the form, including changing the image. My front desk is now confronted with several forms that have no background ima...

Re: Middle Tier + DropBox = Unhandled Exception?
Hello! Bringing thread back to lifeeeeee,
I recently got this error message as well. I am also running Middle Tier, but am using a local NAS for the AtoZ folder. Can someone help me get to the bottom of this?
Thanks!

Overriding office location for claims for travelling dentist
Hello everyone... I travel to many different offices and provide out of network services for patients. I want to use OD to generate dental and medical claims for these patients, but I do not want to maintain 25 different clinics. Is there a way to override service location while keeping provider and...

Thanks for the response, this is a good option for me, especially since Middle Tier can run side by side our existing installation per the link!

FreeDentalConfig.xml obfuscation
Hello everyone,
I want to allow outsiders to do some work within my Open Dental. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to prevent outsiders from accessing the MySQL passwords "obfuscated" in the FreeDentalConfig.xml file?
Maybe setup a VPN and screen share into Kiosk mode?
Thanks!

Re: Debugging password exposure
Hi Nathan, thanks for the quick response.
I had forgotten that the clearinghouse client utility required the mysql password. I'm using EDS. OD version is very recent, installed in the last 3 months.
Are there threads related to fortifying the default OD install?

Debugging password exposure
Hello everyone, I had my OD admin account and all the MySQL root accounts on the same password. The other day a 3rd party service (a clearinghouse) was debugging one of their client utilities remotely on our computers and then I noticed days later that the dev had left some debug notes on a sticky n...

Automated import of xrays into Images
Hello world, My other office's dental management program automatically picks up images dumped into an export directory of the xray management program. Can Open Dental be made to replicate this type of functionality? We do not use advanced imaging functions - it would be nice to not have to run anoth...

Re: Stability of OD in virtualized environments
Thanks guys... This is very good to know, that's why I wanted to implement VMs. We are pediatric so we will not have much use for intraoral camera so no concern on that front for now. We're a small office so I'm not implementing a domain controller or active directory or any of that good stuff. bpco...

Stability of OD in virtualized environments
Hello OD world, I am in the process of setting up OD to be used by a new office. I'm running OD in Virtualbox and a few days ago I got several crashes from simple activities like clearing the pinboard or added a procedure which were not reproducible. Given that I havent rolled out OD yet, these cras...

Re: Images folder permissions to prevent deletion
Hmm... A lot of work to secure images folder from rogue employees. I guess given the low cost of storage both local and cloud based, restricting ImageDelete from all users except for admin is not a terrible policy. And then you just need one Windows account with read&execute and write permissions. M...

Re: Thin Client from remote server location for 3 offices
Hello, sorry to open old thread, but has anyone tried this? I am considering switching to open dental due to growing business and would like to have a good multi-office strategy from the get-go. Thanks! As efficient as RDP is, the UI elements still need to be transported over network. Not sure, if t...
