Re: how to bill out family members
We do the discount. I want to see how much we have discounted. For staff members, I use it to calculate their Total Pay Statements at the end of the year.

Preferred Confirmation Method
We are using the text message feature , but have a question. Before we used a workaround of texting to email but now with direct texting that is no longer necessary, we can actually text. But the preferred confirmation method box only lets us choose one way to confirm. However, many of our patients ...

We have a handful (literally about six) families that come here with Federal Employee Dental Insurance. As I understand it, I need to use the ADA 2012 claim form to submit claims, as every dental procedure needs a corresponding diagnosis code. Am I correct in thinking that I need to update to the Be...

Re: Comm Log Audit Trail?
Open Dental's Audit Trail is sadly lacking. I have been asking for this change for a while now. I understand it is a big deal to overhaul the audit trail, but it is a critical function for our businesses and it is almost useless as it is now. Hoping we see a new Audit Trail Soon!

Routing Slips won't show date of last 4910
I can't find an static text field that shows the date of the last periodontal maintenance for our routing slips. It has a field for prophys, but many of our adult patients are 4910's. Any suggestions on how to get this field to populate on a Routing Slip?

I totally agree! I have been frustrated with the limitations of the audit trail in open dental since I started using the program. Definitely the Achilles Heel of the Program.

Text Messaging
Still trying to find a viable texting solution for confirming appointments. We are using the workaround of the cell number in email format (ie 3301111111j@vtext.com) in the email field. This is definitely not ideal for many reasons. I contacted Call Fire. Jacob in their sales department told me pati...

Re: Is this a Glaring omission
In my office, restorative treatment is planned clinically, and then the patient talks to my front desk, who are the insurance experts, for an Financial Arrangement and to schedule. I guess my question is who in your office developed a treatment plan and financial arrangement without looking at avail...

Re: HIPAA Compliant Email
No, I didn't look at MD Office Mail. We started using edossea over a year ago, and it has worked so well for us I haven't looked elsewhere. $50 a montyh, and other providers can upload right from my website. It has been great. But will definately take a look at MD Office Mail too.

Re: Is this a Glaring omission
We put anything a clinical person has to know about that patient in service notes. You are right, a clinical person is not going to click open the family module unless they are looking for something specific. In addition, I would think your front desk should flag these people with unusual insurance ...

Re: Problem areas
I will be honest. The best and worst feature about Open Dental is how good it is. We switched from Softdent three years ago and it was the best decision we ever made. My frustration with the program is that the deeper and deeper we use the program, we come up against things it could do better. We tr...

Jason Encrypted email into Open Dental would be awesome! Would we be able to attach images to it also and woud the images be encrypted? How would this work with receiving PHI from another office? Right now we use a program called EDOSSEA which has worked really well for us, $50 a month, we send elec...

An audit trail is not just for fraud prevention and deleting patients. It is for understanding what happened with scheduling, charting, payments, treatment planning basically everything. It is for training purposes and recreating what happened and when so you can figure out WHY. Could be an honest m...

Signing Treatment Plans
We use the treatment planning procedure to track all treatment recommended for our patients. The treatment plan screen allows you to save the treatment plan and have patients sign it on a topaz pad, documenting that they were informed of what was needed to be done. BUT......there is no way to store ...

Audit Trail
I am surprised to see that Open Dental is missing a critical piece of info on the audit trail. Basically, we should be able to see at glance when a procedure or payment was originally entered and compare it to the date it was changed, edited or deleted. At this point all we can see is the original d...

Re: Organizing Patient Notes
We enter a "watch tooth" code in diagnosis. Under our quick buttons in the chart module, then under the category of exams and xrays, we added a tooth watch code which is code D4129. Now when we have a tooth we want to watch, we select the tooth, select treatment plan, select the diagnosis (abrasion,...

Re: Medical history
We created a custom sheet for Health History. We do not have kiosk (which would be great) but instead print the form and have the patient fill it out. I agree that it is time consuming if you have never entered HH information into your database, but trust me, it is worth the inital time to do so. On...

thank you for the reply. It is helpful to find out what has worked for others.
I saw your post on dental town with your auto notes for a hygiene visit. That was very helpful..I plan on copying exactly what you had there and tweaking it for my hygienists.

Progress Notes for multiple Providers
I understand that Open Dental does not allow group progress notes for multiple providers. How are you all handling progress notes for a hygiene visit? When we hand write progress notes for a recall visit, the hygienist always wrote up the findings of the exam by the dr, the perio charting by the hyg...

Question for anyone using text messaging by the phone number & carrier (ie...2221111111@vtext.com). I would like it to basically be a calendar similar to what google calendar is, without being online. One where you could put in remeinders weeks, days, or minutes ahead. We converted to Open Dental from Softdent a few weeks ago. One thing my staff really misses is the ability to create a memo reminder on a calendar that would remind them of something in the future, say a social event, CE, staff meeting etc. Our Doc is constantly asking them to remind him to do somet...
