how to make laptop workstation server and server workstation

I am going to use Dr Starks Anesthesia program to track and inventory meds etc. this year. Hopefully ,I can get my criticare to record the NIBP, SPO2, Pulse etc to pt images at the same time. It is just more efficient and I have a gig netowk with a media 2 TB 2 hard drive hard drive with autobackup.

The question again is simple....how do I make the laptop the server and the current server a workstation. I have tried log me in for a while and likeit in case of emergencies but it allows me to put off tasks like importiong the ECG, SR, ETC and it piles up( log me in does not allow an efficient way to scan to OD images. If I do this on the server laptop at the office while the patient recovers(10 to 15 min) post surgical with Midazolam amd Fentanyl all I need to do is place a 50 buck HP scanner/printer in each office I go to. I used to do this but tried to get too high tech and discover myself overteched.

1. Install the trial version on the workstation, except for the OD program itself.
2. Connect to trial database and make sure it's working.
3. Backup server.
4. Restore to workstation.
5. Open port 3306 on new server.
6. Test.
7. Point old server to new server when starting up OD.
8. Disable the mysql service on the old server so you don't accidentally connect to the wrong database.
