Update problem on Vista Version 6.4.3

I downloaded version 6.4.3 beta onto my home computer last night to check it out, and the update process left 2 instances of opendental icon on desktop, as well as every time I start opendental the program leaves 2 text files on my desktop. I am using vista at home.

Didn't realize until I checked but I too have two OD icons on the desktop, but only one text file (FreeDental Config file).
I'm using XP Pro, however.

That's a known issue that we can't do a darned thing about. We switched to a new installer. The new installer is a huge improvment for us because we can control it programmatically. We can script our releases instead of having to perform 25 mouse clicks. It's supposed to "update" the existing installation, but it is not quite flawless. We decided that the benefit outweighed the annoyance. The only flaw is in the transition from 6.3 to 6.4. After that, it will "update" like expected.

I discovered something today. I am using, updated to, version 6.4.7. When I updated, 2 opendental icons were on the desktop, one old and one new. Also, when I ran opendental, pushed the new opendental icon, I was sent to the choose database window, and 2 text files were placed on my desktop. The same thing happended when I went to update the other user computers in the office.

What I discovered was that if I used the old opendental icon, not the new, then I did not have a problem at all. No files added to desktop and I was not sent to choose database window. Worked just like it always has. So, since I had deleted the old icon on one of the machines, I retrieved it from the recycle bin and it too worked perfectly. I deleted the new opendental icons and the text files, and am using the old opendental icon to start opendental with no problems. This worked for both my windows xp computers and my vista home computer.

I am not a programmer, so I don't know if this helps.
