e-claim rec file

Post by drpav » Tue May 31, 2011 9:10 am

I am using an older version (6.3) of Open Dental and I was planning on switching over to WebMD. I was running some test claims with them using the preset settings for WebMD. They said they can't read the 837 claims and they need to be converted to REC files. How do I do that?

Thank you!

I don't know what a REC file is. All of our customers send 837s to Emdeon (the new name for WebMD). I don't know how you could send test claims to them before getting a key from us.

According to the technician at Emdeon, they said that open dental normally sends them ECF 1.3 files with the .REC extension. The test claims were not coming to them with the .REC extension for some reason. This is all beyond me so I don't really know what that means...... I simply called them up to sign up, I set up the WEBMD clearinghouse in the software and they had me send some test claims. I don't know anything about a "key".

Does that make any sense?

It sounds like maybe you didn't follow the instructions on this page:
http://www.opendental.com/manual/eclaimswebmd.html
specifically step 2.

They gave me a login and a password.

Do I still need to call in to Open Dental to get another one? Also, I am not a subscriber of your support. Would having a different login change the file extension?

I know for a fact that we have to give you the username and password, not them. This whole file extension issue that you think you have is not the real issue; it's a red herring.

The fact that you are not on our support is probably a non-issue. We have to handle the usernames and passwords even for customers that are not on support.
