host not allowed to connect

Post by drpav » Thu Jan 06, 2011 10:03 am

I am all of a sudden getting 'host is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server' error on all of my computers including the server when I hit OK on the choose database screen. Everything had been working fine for the last year and I haven't installed any software or made any changes that I am aware of. I am running on XP and am only using Avast for antivirus and have opened the port in Windows Firewall. I can connect on the server using local host and access my data, but anything else gives this error. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Did you try restarting everything, including your routers and switches?

Can you access the server from Windows (network neighborhood) from your computers and see shared folders and files?

Yes, you can browse all the computers in the network and see the shared files on every computer. So the network is functioning correctly...........

This is hard to troubleshoot on a forum. But it sounds like it might be a MySql username/password issue. Have you ever done anything besides root with no password? http://www.opendental.com/manual/passwordsmysql.html

I read the section on MySQL passwords and I downloaded Navicat and followed the instructions. In the user accounts it showed 2 accounts (not the 4 mentioned in the instructions). How do I tell if they have any passwords that have been changed? I have not intentionally changed any of them.

It's easiest if you call us. We can fix it remotely. We would just use our installer to fix the mysql grant tables if that's the problem.

Actually I got the myssql accounts figured out and they are fine.

What seems very strange is that sometimes when I get to the choose database screen, I can see all of the computers on my network in the dropdown box and then other times I can only see localhost. Even if I can see the other computers when I go to the database box the dropdown arrow will not show anything (just the default opendental). When I select local host for the server than I can see all of my databases in the dropdown box. Why would I be able to see my network sometimes and then I launch the program immediately again and it doesn't show up in the server box?

Don't worry about the dropdown not showing everything. Windows doesn't have a function for that, so we had to hack together a solution that works just some of the time.
