Digital pen integration for sheets

What would be best way to link a digital pen to write data for sheets. Digital pen- the one that uses infrared technology to catch your writing in specified area.

We allow freehand drawing anywhere on sheets. So if it can emulate a mouse, then it can be used to mark up a sheet. It's not anything that we've tested or have looked into.
