Yesterday, I left the office and my hygienist had 8 patients on her schedule. I come this morning and now she has only 4 patients on the schedule.
Is there a way in OD to figure out what happened to these 4 patients, (if they cancelled or rescheduled), without asking the receptionist?
How to track cancellation of the Hygiene appointments ?
Re: How to track cancellation of the Hygiene appointments ?
You could find those appointments in the audit trail. If you limit the date to yesterday and today and select the AppointmentMove permission, you can see the patients who had an appointment that got moved. After that you can select the AppointmentEdit permission to find the appointments that were deleted. I think that that would be easier than asking the receptionist.

Can OD create a "daily notes" section on the Appointments screen on the right side, by the waiting room menu, so we can enter our notes, like john doe cancelled, jane doe rescheduled, etc...... or maybe in the schedule itself?
Re: How to track cancellation of the Hygiene appointments ?
Yes, you could create a 'Patient Note' on the schedule, and in that note you could enter all notes for the day. You could either put the note early or late in the day when you won't have appointments, or you could create a 'Note' operatory in which to put the note.

The explanation Chris gave is the easiest implementation to keep track of the information you're describing (Potentially even creating a separate operatory to keep track of these notes). To answer your question of "could we" add something to the program, the answer is yes but it would be a feature request: http://www.opendental.com/manual/featurerequests.html.

This is not my professional opinion but me "personally" just making sure you are aware of our formal "Broken Appointment" tracking. You might be able to slightly change your workflow and use this report to your advantage?
Once again, I'm not an expert on office workflow and if you have any questions you need to call in and talk with our wonderful support staff. I'm just a friendly engineer who lives in a wonderful world of ignorance

The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
