I wanted to know if there is a way t?o set up a program link to open 1 particular excel file. not just open excel.
Now if only I could get the word merge feature data to merge into an excel sheet.

Sure!
Make a new program link, add Excel as the program to open, then the path to the file you want to open
More info on Excel from the command line here:

I tried that . it took me a moment but it seems all you have to have is the file extension at the end of the file. no need for the excel part. .xslx

Correct you can also just put the full path to the file as you suggested.

As an FYI for users browsing this forum, doing the above will cause Open Dental to act on your behalf as if you double clicked on the file mentioned. Thus if you have a program (like Excel) set to open .xslx files by default, it will launch the file with said program. If you have multiple softwares that support .xslx then you'll get the "Open With..." dialog or if you have none that are not currently set to open them by default.
Doing things the way wjstarck suggested is the guaranteed way to get Excel to open your file along with other optional commands that they specifically provide.
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
