Scan EOB when No insurance payment is made

when we receive a payment / check from the insurance, and when we post the payment, and we finalize the payment, OD allow to scan the EOB, and attach it to the claim to be viewed later when needed.
If no payment was made by the insurance, we can not scan the EOB and attach it to the claim, because no check was posted.
Am I missing something!!! cant it be done the same from here??


note: the workaround we are doing now: -My receptionist now has to go to the images module, scan the EOB, and import it in the patient chart, but it is not linked to the claim

That functionality has been requested in Feature Request 2883- "Attach individual no payment claims to EOBs". Go ahead and throw some votes that way if you're interested in having it added to the software.

Today I found another workaround, but it works only if we have 2 or more procedures in the insurance claim

Posted the following payments by procedure and not as total:
pay procedure 1 the amount of: 0.01
pay procedure 2 the amount of : - 0.01 (negative)


now we can create a check for $ 0 , and we can scan the EOB

Workarounds have other consequences, though, such as changing your production and income reports. Just be mindful of that before implementing that change into your workflow.

Sounds more like an oversight or a bug in the program vs a function request, but i will vote for the update

so what is 2605 request that was completed? 2605 states in its description "EOB, allow scanning and attaching even when the total payment was zero."

Request 2605 is to allow attaching an EOB where a claim payment exists but the sum of the payments is zero. Request 2883 is to attach an EOB to a claim when there is not insurance payment at all.

We approach this differently. We batch scan all the EOB's at the end of the day and create one PDF with all the EOB's for that day. We have a master file for EOB's on our server to which we save the EOB's. When the EOB file is opened you see each year, then the month. Once the month is opened, we name the file like this, "EOB 01-05-2016" and save. If you ever need the EOB, the date needed will be in Open Dental. Simply find that date in the EOB file, bring up the appropriate PDF and scroll to the needed individual EOB. This method cuts down on the busy work of scanning and attaching each individual EOB.
