VixWin or OD bridge Vista problem?

Post by wjstarck »

Hello, good to be back

OD 5.latest works great on Vista, except that when VixWin is launched via the OD bridge, the mapped network image drive is not visible in the drop down under Options > Preferences > Drive for database image files.

The workaround is to quit and relaunch Vixwin, select the drive (it does appear now), go into OD and hit the VixWin bridge button, and then pull up the image.

Any fix to this? Is it a VixWin problem, or an OD problem?

Vista computers have trouble finding shared network folders. Now, you say it's a "mapped" network drive. Does that mean it looks like "F:\" or "G:\"? Or does it look more like "\\SERVER\"? I'm not saying I'm even close to knowing what a solution is. I'm just trying to ask questions that might point us in the right direction. I have never had good luck with "mapped" drives. Also, I've never used VixWin, so I'm not familiar with the menu option you talk about, Options > Preferences > Drive. I can't quite see how that would be related to Open Dental. Are you launching OD by rightclick, run as admin? Once VixWin is up and running, can you repeatedly call it from OD and have it correctly find the patients? I would try some of the above changes. Let me know how it goes.

Ahh....looks like Vista UAC was the problem... disabled that and now it works. Vista still has problems with mapped drives (doesn't reconnect them on reboot) which is a nuisance. Unfortunately I'm stuck with mapped drives as that is how VixWin works.

Thanks Jordan.
