So now the recommendation is Tesia for the clearing house? Correct? Furthermore, we will have real time EOB (eventually) so we should know exactly how much the patient will owe? Is this too good to be true? This would really cut down on billing the patients. I hope I understand this correctly.

That's the plan. Just to be fair, all the clearinghouses are working on real-time claims. But Tesia has a unique blend of features that we found very attractive, incuding:
1. Medical claims
2. Inexpensive attachments ($15/month)
3. Inexpensive eligibility and benefits ($15/month)
This means that almost everyone can start using attachments and electronic eligibility. I think that this greatly increases the value of the software. I'm very excited about getting this working.

So, this sounds really great. What kind of time frame are we talking about before this is running well, without bugs, is this what version 5 is about? 3 months ago I spent $200 or so to set up, was it Emdeon or NEA, one of those...sux

I would stick with NEA or whatever you set up. It's total vaporware at this point. Planned for version 5.1. It will take months.

One further problem is that we still don't know how many carriers will actually accept the e-attachment. NEA is going to be better in that regard. Possibly much better.

Oh, that would be tasty. Real time EOB would be incredible. I would know the exact patient's amount at time of service. I can see where this would greatly cut down on bills sent to patients.

yes, who will accept the attachments will be a problem.

Even when we used NEA (we dropped e-attachments last year because of the hassle of doing two different things and having to figure out which one accepted and which didn't) there were quite a few companies that just didn't accept e-attachments. So even though it certainly is the future, it is hard to put to use today....that being said, continue forward and it will be great when it works like a charm!

The industry is still at the very beginning of what it will become. This is going to be huge some day. We're talking about eliminating at least one fulltime staff person in each dental office. No time spent on the phone trying to verify benfits. No waiting for EOBs to come back a month later. Everything automated. But it's a process that will take maybe 10 more years. The insurance companies are trying to build it up on their end too, and each one takes a different approach.
