Change of Primary Insurance

Post by B.Thomas »

How should we handle electronic claims when the patient changes their primary insurance midway through treatment? OD will not allow us to file another primary claim even though we changed the insurance company's name in the family module. OD states "Not allowed to send a procedure to the same insurance company twice".

Did you go into the primary insurance and just change the information? You should actually drop the insurance and then add a new insurance. This way OD knows that it is a new insurance. Also, when you drop the insurance OD keeps track of your old insurance in the event that you need to use it again or anything.

Also, if you have submitted a claim for that particular procedure, you cannot submit a primary claim again, of course, as it would be secondary, unless you delete the first claim (if it is invalid). Call us up if you cannot clear it up. Make sure not to DELETE the original insurance, as indicated in the above post, you would DROP it so that the previous claims would still be there and accurate. ALso do not be tempted to simply change the primary insurance information, it would simply edit the original plan.
