Update to 7.9.27 Scanner no longer works

I have an Epson GT-S50 scanner and an Epson 1680 Pro scanner.
All has worked well and as it should.
I recently updated to 7.9.27.
Now both scanners are not functioning as they should.
One can only make a single scan.
Upon attempting scan #2, an error message appears stating that the scanner (either one) is not connected.
Removing the scanners and software, with re installation does not correct the problem.
Each scanner is directly connected to the workstation.
When a non TWAIN Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 is used, scanning can be done.
Anybody have any suggestion or similar experience?
How can I fix this?
