I'm looking for some feedback concerning converting from Dentrix Enterprise to Open Dental. What features will be lose? Will it interface with Dexis? What are the drawbacks if any? Will our client database convert without any issues? I'm not a big fan of Dentrix and I think its bloated and support has been a pain for me. What are the selling points for Open Dental?

Thanks for any feedback!!

Darn I think I found a deal breaker. It looks like the practice is lumped into one and does not separate the data into three offices. So for example the users at West see everything for East as well as West. Am I right here or did I miss something?

We call them "clinics". So you have three clinics in one database, right? See the fifth screenshot on this page:

See where it lets you restrict user to one clinic? There is a discussion a few paragraphs below the screenshot.

Are you looking for absolutely strict separation? If so, then you might want three separate databases.

For example, we have one customer with 70 clinics. Every 1 to 5 clinics shares a database. But then they built queries that pull data from ALL of their databases into on central report. Obviously, they have a full-time database administrator to deal with all of their report needs. But similar things can be done on a smaller scale.

So if I understand correctly the users assigned to a certain clinic only have access to that particular clinics data? When they open their schedule do they only see appointments for their clinic?
