Default Note

Is there any way to get the default note to show when you tx plan a procedure rather than after marking it complete.
I want to have a basic default note that I then add some details to when I am editing my note and signing. The way it is now, I have to mark it complete then reopen the note to edit it.

That sounds good in theory, but what if you tx plan, even schedule the work, then the pt cancels and you never see them again. You already have notes about what you did but you never actually did the procedure. Could be a problem...

I've heard of some users doing something similar and they used quick notes to achieve it. http://opendental.com/manual/quickpastenotes.html

Not really. If the note is just a tx plan and not marked complete and it isn't signed then the tx never took place.

Yeah, I know. I use quick notes and auto notes for other things. I was hoping to keep it simpler, rather than adding a step.
Example:
Procedure D0431 Adjunctive pre-diagnostic test...
Default Note: Oral Cancer exam - Examine soft tissues of mouth, cheeks, lips, tongue, palate, soft palate, uvula with illumination from Trimera Indentafi 3000. Palpate and examine soft tissues of oral cavity, submandibular glands and neck. No unusual findings.

The problem is when I want to slightly change the note or add something to the end of it. Have to set it complete and then reopen to edit. Besides being inconvenient, both versions of the note are saved in the database, doubling the size of the used space (yeah, I know it is minimal, still it is wasted space).

Default note is useless, as it appears after the thing is finished, no one has the time to be messing around after editing it. Autonotes are the only way forward with a multi tick options per single note. I just have 20 or 30 standard notes in autonotes with a ... to seperate sections so you know what section to scroll to and just tick what I want. This is the only way forward. The few hours spent setting this up is time very well spent and should create records that you would be proud to display in front of a dental board if you have to.

@ Sandi,

would you be kindly to post an example of your notes? I would like to better format my autonotes.

Thanks,
