I went to the office and the Opendental could not open completely.
Open Dental would say " not responding". I did not make it to the user login screen

This was the error message from windows about sqlserver

"svhost.exe has stopped working"

What should I do?

I will be awake for the next.... 5 hours if you would like me to take a look at it. Bored!

Open Dental uses MySQL... not sqlservr.exe.. which is Microsoft SQL Server... Open Dental does not use this... Could be a problem with Windows in general on your server.

I do have a Acronis nightly backup of my entire C drive if it helps

How far are you getting when you try to launch OD? Do you see the splash, and then the choose db window or even the log on window?

Have you reinstalled OD with the Setup.exe from your servers OpenDentImages folder?

I can get by the splash screen...get to the choose database window, i click ok, another Open Dental Software splash screen...and thats when it hangs.

No I have not done any installation/reinstallation of any kind as I do not want to make things worse for now

Now it tells me my path to the Opendentimages cannot be found...and shows the edit paths windows..but it still hangs..and the main Open Dental screen says (Not Rsponding)

When I tried to go into the common files (I am running a peer to peer network), it says The Server service is not started on the main PC hosting.

When i tried to go into services.msc , and start the server service, I get error 1608: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Any help appreciated.

I just did a system restore on the Windows 7 pc which houses the database.

Now only the OD on the main pc (which houses the database) can be accessed. the rest get an error message saying " Access denied for user root@PC name. It seems now the database cannot be assessed?

I would like to clarify: You can open Open Dental on your server but cannot open it on your workstations, correct?
This error is typically associated with Grant Tables. There is a permission setting issue within those. If you can troubleshoot them, go nuts! You can also reinstall them using the trial installer. You were absolutely right. it was the grant/permission tables. Thankfully I managed to sort it out . thank you.
