Documenting entering a letter into a paper chart

Hello,

Typically, when we receive a correspondence from a specialist, or get a report from another provider, I would usually put in a one line entry into the chart. With OD, I'm not sure if I should use a CommLog entry for this, or create a dummy code and then add in the chart note. Anyone have thoughts on this, and what the cleaner method is?

CommLog is the better choice in my opinion.

No need to create dummy codes to accomplish this. Every dummy code will show as a line item on the patient ledger (for instance when you print a statement). This just confuses the patients. The cleaner look and feel will be the CommLog.

What category do you use for a correspondence? I'm also looking for something for a CT scan or blood lab values that get entered into a chart.

You can create a CommLog Type if you wish. To do so, go to Setup>Definitions>CommLog Types
