VPN advice

Hello,
I'd appreciate your help.
We have two locations (Manhattan and NJ) and have a VPN connection setup by our longtime IT guy.
We are having troubles and even when it is fully up and running the computers are SUPER slow.
The computers are all quite new and beefy, also our bandwidth is the highest available.
Open dental tells me that they have many clients that use OD for different clinic locations using a VPN
and all goes smoothly.
Can anyone please suggest / recommend an IT person that has already done this for your office successfully?
