is 17.3 ready to use if compiled yet? The bug tracker page says beta but the versions page is still says it is in development...

We haven't fully released it yet. There are still a few things being finished up for the final release.

It's now safe to use 17.3.2 (released 9/13/2017)
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
