email setup requires authentication

Just upgraded today from 4.3 to 5.6.16. Yes it has been a while. Anyway so now I gotta play and look at the new stuff. One of the things was emailing treatment plans. So, I set about setting up email. I use charter and when away from home use Verizon broadband. So, my outgoing SMTP is vzwmail.net and I use my number and password to send mail out. It works fine on outlook but I am getting an error relaying denied proper authentication required. I did notice there is no place to say my outgoing server requires authentication as it does in outlook. Is there something I am not doing correctly?
